Many of us are now spending our days time rich and bandwidth poor – something of a flip from what daily life used to look like. In the interest of keeping the overwhelm at bay as we all search for a little bit of white space within our long days, I’ll keep this brief.
Grocery stores are inundated at the moment, not just with panic buyers but with those of us who are now feeding everyone in our household every single meal, every single day, leaving stocks understandably depleted. Simultaneously as we all spend increasingly limited amounts of time outside of our homes, footfall which can be heavily relied upon by local, independent or family-run shops, is at an all-time low. While both of these are outcomes are the result of very necessary measures to stay inside and physically distance ourselves from each other, they both result in panic and worry around feelings of scarcity.
In the interest of helping both customers and owners, I’ve put together a shortlist of local shops and businesses still open (though subject to change) in my area offering safe food sourcing. While I realise that the following list and links won’t apply to those outside of Kingston upon Thames, I hope it might encourage you to look out for similar types of businesses doing their best to adjust, adapt, comply and pivot in order to safely keep their doors open and their shelves stocked so they can put food on their own tables, as well as yours. Let’s all try to take care of each other whenever possible.
Lots of love from my little corner of my little house in this great big world.
*PS. If you’re a local business owner and you don’t see your name here please get in touch so I can include you!
